Introducing Kindred, the new pairing to one of my longtime favorite paintings (I promise I don't say that about every painting!), Daughter. The story behind the name of that piece is this: I asked my friend Blaire's young daughter what we should name it, and she suggested "Daughter," and it was perfect. To me that name feels equal parts tender and strong and also kind of edgy, which captures how it looks and feels to me.
Ive loved thinking about the bond between two women when I look at Daughter, and I wanted to capture that same feeling when naming this painting. Except this time I wanted it to speak to the bond between two women who aren't necessarily related. I know for me, my best friends are my safest place. They know me intrinsically. Thats what kindred means to me— a sharing of hearts, and a deep knowing.
There are pastels in both Kindred and Daughter (the blush is just perfect if you ask me, almost neutral), but the denim blue, charcoal, and black are very grounding. They are really special paintings but not too precious... perfectly fit for any space. Daughter and Kindred are maybe more similar to each other than some of our other Duos, but the subtle differences will sing in person. If you're only picking one and you're not sure which to pick, I recommend thinking about their names and seeing which one you connect with more! (This also would make a beautiful gift for someone who is Kindred to you.)
I hope you love Kindred, and I cant wait to see how you make it your own!
