The Story

This is my first attempt at painting a nativity, and I hope it feels as special and cozy and meaningful to you as I pray it will! My husband has gone to Israel several times, and I was so surprised when he showed me photos he took of a cave that may have been like the one that Jesus could have been born in. While I can't imagine how it would feel to experience a birth in anywhere with rocks and straw and dirt beneath you, I do know that the love and protection of God must have been so palpable in the cave (or room) that night. I picture the gathering of animals, the soft flicker from the oil lamp, and the incredible feeling of relief and wonder. I feel humbled to offer my interpretation of this pivotal event, but hope it meets you in your desire to reflect on the true reason we celebrate this season and always.
